Basic Crochet Stitches-Part 2

In my last post I taught you how to make a slip knot, chain stitch and single crochet. Now I will show you how to make a Half Double Crochet, Double Crochet and Treble Crochet.

HALF DOUBLE CROCHET (hdc)

Work a half double crochet in each following chain across, making sure foundation chain is always flat with V's facing you.

Half double crochet is twice as tall as a single crochet, but is shorter than a double or triple crochet. It is very simple to learn.

Here's how to make half double crochet:

Begin with a foundation chain of 10 stitches
Yarn over, insert hook in 3rd chain from hook. (Picture 1)

Picture 1

Yarn over hook and draw loop through stitch. there are now 3 loops on hook. yarn over hook again and draw loop through. (Picture 2)

Picture 3

Work a half double crochet in each following chain across, making sure foundation chain is always flat with V's facing you.

DOUBLE CROCHET (dc)

Double crochet (dc)

Double crochet is 3 times taller than single crochet and taller than half double crochet. It's easy stitch which works up quickly because it is taller , so there are less rows of work.

Here's how to make a double crochet:

Begin with a foundation chain of 10. Yarn over hook, insert hook on 4th chain from hook. (Picture 1)

TREBLE CROCHET (tr)

Treble crochet has one more step than double crochet, making it the tallest of the previous crochet stitches.

Here's how to make a treble crochet:

Make a foundation chain of 10.

Yarn over hook twice, insert hook in 5th from hook. (Picture 1)

Yarn over hook and draw loop through stitch. There are now 4 loops on hook. Yarn over hook and draw loop through first 2 loops on hook. There are now 3 loops on hook. (Picture 2)
